We were industrious kids back then. We got up at five thirty to deliver the papers before school. We made just pennies per paper but soon figured that good service meant bigger tips..some wanted the paper in their mail box while others wanted it stuck in the screen door so they didn’t have to go outside in a night gown. Some wanted the paper before six am so they could take it to work. If we did those things some customers would bump the tip from a quarter a week to fifty cents! Now a guy in a mini-van throws it from his moving vehicle in the general vicinity of my house.

]]> By: Larry https://www.roibal.us/sydney-pollack-dies/#comment-115 Tue, 27 May 2008 13:37:31 +0000 http://www.roibal.net/blog/2008/05/27/sydney-pollack-dies/#comment-115 There were more recent photos of him in the Times and Post,..He did age gracefully, and had a nice solid head for drawing, but New Jersey’s Star Ledger chose to show him circa 1986, and even though his fro is a little dated, it had to be one of his happiest moments, having won the two most coveted awards in film making, Best Picture and Best Director.

Once again, it was cancer. The third cancer story in the past seven days. Maybe it’s just that I have my radar tuned to these cancer stories because of the upcoming event I’m taking part in to raise money for Breast Cancer.
