Justice Department official Alan Bersin was named Border Czar by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Bersin received an A.B. in government from Harvard, attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School. He has served as Secretary of Education for California, Superintendent of San Diego City Schools and Border Czar under Janet Reno. The job he had in the Clinton administration however, is similar in title only. The main emphasis has shifted from controlling illegal immigration to ending drug-cartel violence along the U.S.- Mexico border.
