The Phillies took the opening game of the national league division series on the strength of Roy Hallaway's right arm. Halladay pitched the second no-hitter in post season history, coming within one batter of a perfect game by allowing one base on balls. Don Larsen was the only other pitcher to accomplish the great feat when he threw a perfect game in the 5th game of the 1956 World Series.

Beloved baritone broadcaster Harry Kalas, voice of the Phillies and NFL Films passed away on Monday. Kalas called Phillie games for nearly four decades joining the team in 1971. He was awarded the prestigious Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game. Kalas was also the voice of NFL Films starting as a narrator in 1975, he did the voiceover for "Inside the NFL" from 1977 and became its primary voice following the passing of John Facenda in 1984. His voice was the sound track to many of sports most memorable moments. It seems fitting that his life should end in the broadcast booth. He was 73.

Ball point pen on the morning newsprint

The Wait is over! After waiting twenty eight years between championships, Philly fans were forced to wait a little longer when game 5 of the World Series went into a 50 hour rain delay. The final three innings were played last night, the Phillies coming out on top 4-3 to take the series 4 games to 1. It marks the second World Championship in the team's 125 year history.
Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels went 4-0, with a 1.80 ERA in post season and was awarded the MVP of both the National League Championship and the World Series.
