That’s very nice of you Jen. Sounds like you and your grandfather are lucky to have each other.

This really didn’t start out to be a tribute to my dad. If I started writing a tribute, I’m afraid I wouldn’t know where to stop. I really just wanted to post about his service for Veterans Day. But I’m so touched that those who loved him, as well as those who have a dad or grandfather that served, were moved to respond. Because of all of you, my small little post transformed into something more. Thank you.

This blog is great. The tribute to your father is awesome. I have an 88 1/2 year old Grandfather who was in the Navy as well. He was in WWII and served on the LST 601 that went to the Mediterranean. His health is declining and I cherish his stories. He, too, like your father was a hard worker during his prime and he still at his age makes his rounds to my house to see my 2 year old daughter. Joann–thanks for sharing this with the CIT staff.

Joann introduced me to your work some time ago, initially, through the videos you produced as birthday tributes. A month ago she led me to your blog and illustrations of the recent political campaign…….I was duly impressed.
This tribute to your Dad affected me the most.

I too have a father who was in the Navy and he shares many of the character traits you defined in your father. This personal connection has helped me to know your Dad just a little bit, and appreciate my own Dad just a little bit more than I already do. My four brothers and I are lucky to still have him around at the age of 84.
Knowing what I do of the family members I’ve been fortunate to meet or hear some tales about, I’m certain he is very proud of all your endeavors and how you strive to keep his loving memory alive.

I still miss your Dad. I often think of our golf games together and our Friday night pinochle games. He was a brave man and forged ahead no matter what.
You were lucky to have him and he was lucky to have such a fine family.

Hi Jo, Sorry that I didn’t write more. When I started writing about dad’s service for Veterans Day, I realized how telling it was that those catastrophic events, while it effected how he would live the remainder of his life, didn’t define who he was. A lesser man might have given up or been bitter. He accepted the hand he was dealt and made the best of it. We were very lucky to have him.
